Sylvia Horwitz: PhotographyRetreatA small cabin on the northern shore of Lake Superior, near Grand Marais, Minnesota, serves as a place of quiet retreat and reflection. I read, sketch out ideas and write, walk in the woods, and often sleep with the sound of the waves breaking upon the rocky shelf of land where the cabin is situated. It is possible to visit this spot year-round, and once I even spent a cozy New Year's Eve here. I rent the cabin to people I know on a limited basis and have bartered its use for things that help me with my creative projects or in exchange for general maintenance of the property. This has been a haven and a strengthening ground in times of turmoil, and a gathering place for recreation and friendship. |
