Artist's Statement The subway. Subterraneos. “Subte” as it’s called in Buenos Aires, a city of constant movement. It is my primary way of getting around when I visit Argentina’s capitol. My subte station is part of the first line opened here in Latin America (circa 1913). The Metro. Known to some as simply “the train”. Unique urban experience. It engages all senses at once. I hoped that the fast film in my camera would register my vision of vibrant color and motion, washes of light, with shifting patterns everywhere. Mass transit. A system now on heightened alert. New security requires permission to photograph. Often I just rode the train, complete in my thoughts. Public transport through tunnels of time and change to as many private destinations as there are riders. |
