REMNANTS OF A DREAM

Remnants of a dream, taken

like stolen artifacts

From a place of frozen winter

and parched ground summer,

Flashback lodged in the back room

of hopes no more.

Abandoned farm houses remained on the vast horizons like bookmarks in the stories of time. This was the last day of a final journey from my father’s house in California after his death and all that followed.

The bed in this image was an incidental finding in the only old structure I stopped to explore. It stood at the end of a narrow road several miles from the Interstate near Wall, South Dakota. The thought of my father’s last night was seared in my mind. And I was here saying good bye again.
